Getting Started with Keyword Lists
A Keyword List is simply a tool for keeping track of your keywords throughout your research process.
To create a Keyword List, click on Add New Keyword List from the Keyword List feature:
You can create as many Keyword Lists as you like. Some customers have created Keyword Lists for particular competitors they’re interested in. Some have segmented their Keyword Lists based on topic or category. Others have simply used a single Keyword List to keep track of all of their keywords in one place.
Throughout our keyword research tools, users have the ability to select keywords and save them to a Keyword List:
The image above was taken from the Keyword Tracking toolset. Five keywords have been selected and then added to a Keyword List.
You can also create a Keyword List from our keyword research tools directly by selecting keywords and adding them to either an existing list or to a new list:

Within a Keyword List, you can view Monthly Search Volume and Competition data for any keyword that you’ve saved:
Click on the dropdown on the right-hand side to view all of your Keyword Lists:
Click on the pencil icon to edit the name of a saved Keyword List. To delete a Keyword List, click on the X icon to the right of the pencil icon.
You can also upload your own list of keywords to a Keyword List by clicking on the CSV import icon:
Users can download an existing Keyword List to a CSV file by clicking on the download icon to the right of the CSV icon, as pictured above.
Keyword Lists can be uploaded to our Keyword Clustering feature for simple and easy keyword grouping based on SERP analysis. For more information about this workflow, please see the documentation for our Keyword Clustering tool.
Keyword List FAQs:
Can I have more than one Keyword List?
Yes, you can have as many Keyword Lists as you want.
Can other users invited to my account see my Keyword Lists?
Yes, all users invited to your Positional account will be able to view and modify the Keyword Lists contained in your account.
I can’t import a CSV file; what am I doing wrong?
You should clear the formatting on the CSV file you’re working to upload. Before uploading a CSV file, you’ll want to make sure that its formatting is very simple: just a simple list of keywords in one column. For additional support, please reach out to Nate Matherson at [email protected].
Can I connect Keyword Lists to my Editorial Calendar?
Not yet, but this is something that we are working on.
Can I connect Keyword Lists to Optimize?
Not yet, but this is something that we are working on.
Can I filter or sort Keyword Lists?
Not yet, but this is something that we are working on.
Why do I have duplicate keywords in my Keyword List?
You likely saved the same keyword multiple times to a Keyword List. You can delete the duplicate by clicking on the X icon on the right-hand side of the table.
Can I cluster or group my keywords directly in a Keyword List?
No, you need to take those keywords to our Keyword Clustering toolset to do this. We are working on allowing you to do this clustering process within Keyword Lists directly.
