Getting Started with Social Listening

Our Social Listening toolset was designed to give you near real-time alerts on keywords and phrases showing up across leading social media platforms: Reddit, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), and Hacker News. You can set as many alerts as you like.

To get started, click on Add New Alert:

Next, choose the platform you’d like to monitor:

For each platform, you must name the alert, enter the word or phrase you’d like to be alerted about, and, if applicable, add negative matching.

The options and capabilities vary depending on the platform you choose. For example, for Reddit, you can specify a particular subreddit to monitor.

For X, you can specify that alerts be triggered only if the poster has more followers than a minimum number that you set.

You can then choose to send those alerts either to a specified Slack channel or via email:

You can also view historical alerts in My Feed. Within My Feed, you can choose the platform that you’d like to review alerts for, and you can filter by specific alerts you’ve set:

Alerts will show up in your Social Listening feed in near real-time. Meanwhile, alerts sent via Slack or email are grouped and sent at 15-minute intervals.

To view your alerts, go to the Alert List:

You can modify an alert by clicking on the pencil icon on the right-hand side of the table. And you can delete an alert by clicking on the trashcan icon.

As a pro tip, we recommend being thoughtful about your alerts. We wouldn’t, for example, want to set an alert on a very broad keyword like “SEO,” as that would create a lot of noise for us to filter through.

Social Listening FAQs:

Can I set alerts on the names of my competitors?

Yes, go for it!

How do I connect to my Slack channel?

In Integrations, you can connect your Slack channel:

Can I send alerts to multiple email addresses?

Not yet, but in theory, you could create the same alert twice and set each one up to broadcast to a different address. Or you could send the alerts to a single address and then set up email forwarding from that email.

Are the alerts case-sensitive?

Yes, the alerts are case-sensitive on Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), and Hacker News. However, on LinkedIn, we use an NLP approach.

Does Social Listening work with platforms other than the ones mentioned (for instance, Instagram)?

Not yet. For now, the toolset works only with LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, and Hacker News. However, we will be launching support for additional platforms over the coming months.

Why does an SEO tool have a social listening function?

Because we’re trying to build the platform for inbound marketing, this is the first of many social media toolsets that we’re rolling out in 2024.
